DELHI CONGRESS OBSERVES SMT. INDIRA GANDHI’S MARTYRDOM DAY

NEW DELHI, Oct. 31—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, under the leadership of its president Shri Ajay Maken, observed the 32nd martyrdom day of former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today. Thousands of Congress workers and leaders paid floral tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi. Shri Ajay Maken said Smt. Indira Gandhi was not only an iconic leader of the country, but also a historical figure in world politics, who had left an indelible imprint in the minds of legion of people.

Shri Ajay Maken said Smt. Indira Gandhi was one of the greatest leaders of India who understood the pulse of the people, and the demands of the country, to put India on the path of development and progress, to make the country a world power. He said Smt. Indira Gandhi also took momentous decisions in eradicating poverty and unemployment.

Besides Shri Ajay Maken, prominent other leaders who paid floral tributes to the late Prime Minister were AICC Delhi incharge Shri P.C. Chacko, Ex MP Shri Ramesh Kumar, Dr Narendra Nath, Bheesham Sharma, Kunwar Karan Singh and Malaram Gangwal, Chattar Singh, Brahm Yadav, Om Parkash Bidhuri, Mehmood Zia, Hari Kishan Jindal, Virender Kasana, Pankaj Luthra, Ajay Vinayak, Panna Lal Kherwal, Dr. Naresh Kumar, Pradesh Seva Dal chief Dineshwar Tyagi, Satish Luthra, Muncipal Councillors, district and block Congress committee presidents and a large number of Congress workers.

Shri Ajay Maken said after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, when Indira Gandhi became the first woman Prime Minister of the country, India was facing many challenging problems like poverty, social inequality, unemployment, economic, educational, scientific and many other issues, which needed a strong and decisive leadership to address those issues. He said Smt. Indira Gandhi achieved unprecedented success in solving these problems, and the country is indebted to her for giving it a powerful identity among the comity of nations.

Shri Ajay Maken said Smt. Indira Gandhi was one of the few chosen great leaders of the world who would be remembered for ever. He said Smt. Indira Gandhi was a modern, inspirational leader, who never looked back, but always looked ahead, with hope and confidence. He said Smt. Gandhi played a vital role in making India a nuclear and economic power, and also a space power to reckon with, to help the country stand on its feet proudly among the big powers. Shri Maken said she had great empathy for the poor, and she used to always think of improving the lot of women, and initiated many schemes for their upliftment.
