NEW DELHI (02/07/2022): On Doctors’ Day, the Indian Medical Association HQ organized their annual award ceremony, Doctors’ Day Award Ceremony 2022. At the ceremony, the Ten News Network had the great pleasure of interacting with the Finance Secretary of the Indian Medical Association, Dr. Anil Goyal. He expressed his opinions regarding the absence of dignitaries – the Union Minister and the Minister of State Health despite prior approval of their presence. He also talked about the issues the medical community of India has with the Central Government and the Delhi State Government. He said “I don’t think we need dignitaries from areas other than the medical field. We have our own dignitary, Dr. Vedprakash Mishra,” Dr. Goyal stated regarding the absence of the Ministers at the ceremony. He praised Dr. Mishra, the Chief Guest of the event, for his eloquent speech and intelligence. He stated that the ceremony aimed to felicitate doctors. “I think this was the perfect day for the Indian Medical Association and our doctors whom we felicitated in the presence of Dr. Vedprakash Mishra and our National President Dr. Sahjanand Prasad Singh.”

When asked about the issues that the medical community of India had with the Central Government, Dr. Goyal stated these issues concern society at large. “For example – the violence against doctors. If there is violence against doctors, the doctor will feel scared,” he stated. “He may not be able to give his full, he may not be able to give his 100%,” he stated. He hoped that doctors could get a safe and secure environment to work.
Dr. Goyal urged that the medical fraternity should be out of the Consumer Protection Act. “The doctors cannot treat their patients as consumers. He is not selling commodities, he is selling his knowledge or his skill.” He correspondingly recommended that the purity of the medical profession should be preserved. “We need to promote Ayurveda in its purest form, we need to promote homeopathy in its purest form, and allopathy in its purest form,” he said. “Do not mix them.”

Further, Dr. Goyal talked about the issues that the medical community faced with the Delhi State Government. He appealed that the state government organizes a committee that discusses day-to-day and policy issues. “I think there should be better coordination with them because there are issues of registration of nursing homes, there are issues of Fire NOCs, there are issues of various basic facilities available,” he listed. He further added that Delhi Govt need to take on board all stakeholders from health sector , as the problems keep piling up and the solutions are not found.
