NEW DELHI, May 29, 2022: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that while Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia was lecturing on the so-called “Delhi’s Education Model” in front of 122 education ministers and experts from across the world at the Education World Forum-22 in London recently, a National Achievement Survey put Delhi behind the national average in performance in Languages, Maths and EVS (Environmental Studies), and the Capital has registered a dip in performance since 2017. He said that the survey was conducted among 34 lakh students in classes 3, 5, 8 and 10, which exposed the lie of the Arvind Kejriwal Government’s claim that Government schools were doing better than private schools in Delhi, but in reality, the standard of education in Delhi had slumped to the bottom.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the survey result clearly indicts how the education standard has fallen under the Arvind Kejriwal Government in the past eight years, as many schools are without principals, vice-principals and teachers while nearly 22,000 guest teachers are still waiting for regularization of their services, whose  regularization of service  had been promised by Kejriwal in his election manifesto.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the irony was that AAP-ruled Punjab has scored the highest in all subjects to outshine Delhi, which was due to the great attention paid by the previous Congress Government on education in the State.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy and education Minister Manish Sisodia were creating a false narrative about the “Delhi education model” by applying fresh paints on a few class rooms to fool the people of Delhi, and some senior political leaders who visit Delhi are taken around these class rooms to impress them, but the truth is that the education standard of Government schools has deteriorated to such a level that lakhs of students had left Government schools, and during the Covid-19 pandemic lockout period, over 70 per cent Government school students could not access online education due to lack of facilities like smart phones/laptops and internet connection as the Kejriwal Government made no effort to provide poor students such facilities.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Congress-ruled Rajasthan has also scored above the national average in several categories of learning outcome levels which once again emphasises the thrust Congress gives to education wherever the party rules. He said that when Congress was in power in Delhi for 15 years, Government schools did better than private schools to make a mark in Board exams, but the standard has fallen after Aam Aadmi Party came to power, as it does nothing to improve education other than empty rhetoric.
