#Delhi – hottest August day since 1991, no respite soon …as no rain predicted

In the absence of rain for more than two weeks, the temperature on Monday hit a 23-year high. The Safdarjung station recorded 39.1 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, the highest for the month of August since 1991, when the maximum had touched 39.7 degrees (on August 20).
“A low pressure system is forming over the Bay of Bengal because of which moist easterly winds will start blowing over northwest India. This will increase humidity and decrease temperature from August 28. However, there will not be much rain over the region,” said a Met official.
