New Delhi, 20th May 2023: The power struggle between the On Saturday, the Delhi government and the Centre sought control over bureaucrats once more in the Supreme Court.
Reports confirm that the Centre has petitioned the Supreme Court for a reconsideration of its decision providing the Delhi government control over bureaucrat transfers and appointments in the national capital.
It comes a day after the Centre passed a special law making the Delhi Lt Governor, who represents the Centre, the final arbiter in the dispute. Meanwhile, the Arvind Kejriwal government has decided to file a petition with the Supreme Court, challenging the Centre’s order.
The ordinance, which comes a week after the Supreme Court handed over control of services in Delhi to the elected government except for police, public order, and land, seeks to establish a National Capital Civil Service Authority for the transfer of and disciplinary proceedings against Group-A officers from the DANICS cadre.
Prior to the May 11 Supreme Court decision, all officers of the Delhi government were under the executive control of the lieutenant governor.
