Delhi will host the first “slum festival” on World Homeless Day in the presence of Manish Sisodia

New Delhi, 9 October 2022: The Delhi government will host the first-ever slum festival on October 10 on the occasion of World Homeless Day, according to a statement from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board.

The DUSIB will host festivities and events during the festival week with the goal of ‘sensitizing the public about homelessness, they stated.

While the Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, will be the special guest at the ceremony in Sarai Kale Khan. Throughout the DUSIB shelters and basti vikas kendras for a week, events like medical camps, yoga and meditation courses, a special push on cleanliness and tidiness, and tree planting will be held.

The event will entail the Kabir Gayan program, which honors the intellectual prowess and abilities of homeless and slum dwellers, as well as a puppet show, screenings of documentaries about homelessness and slum life, a sketch show, games, dance performances, and live music.

The DUSIB released a statement stating, World Homeless Day offers a chance to spread awareness of the difficulties facing the homeless, suggest policy options, and pinpoint actions that both individuals and non-governmental organizations can take cooperatively to improve the situation.

Additionally, there will be Aadhaar card and voter identification card issuance camps at the slum festival. With the cooperation of the relevant departments, these camps will be established. During the occasion, the residents of the slum will also get distributions of clothing, blankets, medicines, and wholesome food.
