Don’t Just Consume, Create: Vice President Launches India’s Sovereign AI Stack

National News (29 August 2026): India took another step towards strengthening its indigenous artificial intelligence ecosystem as Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan officially launched ‘Gnani Artha’, a sovereign AI stack developed by GNANI AI, at the Vice President’s residence in New Delhi on Friday.

The newly introduced AI stack combines Evon 3.3, a Large Language Model (LLM), with Plexus, an AI-powered platform designed to integrate intelligent systems with real-world institutions, businesses, and workflows. The launch highlights India’s growing ambition to build homegrown AI technologies capable of competing globally.

India Must Build, Not Just Use, Technology

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President stressed that India’s future lies in becoming a creator of advanced technologies rather than remaining dependent on innovations developed elsewhere. We should not be consumers always; we need to create, so that others can consume, he said while underscoring the need to develop indigenous technological capabilities.

He described the launch of Gnani Artha as an important milestone in India’s broader mission of achieving technological self-reliance and enhancing its strategic independence in emerging sectors.

AI Will Create Opportunities Instead of Replacing Jobs

Reflecting on the evolution of technology, Radhakrishnan recalled the transition from typewriters to personal computers and the concerns that computers would eliminate jobs. Instead, he noted, the IT revolution generated millions of employment opportunities for Indians across the world.

Drawing parallels with the current AI revolution, he expressed confidence that Artificial Intelligence would similarly create fresh employment avenues, boost innovation, and accelerate India’s economic growth. According to him, AI has the potential to become a key driver in the country’s next phase of development.

Modi Government’s Push Behind India’s AI Growth

The Vice President credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for providing the momentum needed to strengthen India’s technological capabilities. He said initiatives such as the IndiaAI Mission and the establishment of Centres of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence demonstrate the government’s commitment to building a robust AI ecosystem under the “India First” vision.

He added that strong political will has played a crucial role in positioning India as a significant player in frontier technologies.

AI Already Transforming Parliament

Highlighting practical applications of AI within democratic institutions, Shri Radhakrishnan pointed to the ongoing digital transformation of Parliament. He said the Digital Sansad platform now enables parliamentary debates, proceedings, and documents to be accessed in multiple Indian languages. He also revealed that AI-powered simultaneous interpretation in eight languages was successfully introduced during the recently concluded Parliament session, with plans to expand the service to all Scheduled Languages in the future.

Sovereign AI and Semiconductor Manufacturing Are National Priorities

The Vice President emphasized that developing sovereign AI capabilities is essential for safeguarding India’s technological and strategic interests. Speaking about semiconductor manufacturing, he observed that India could have entered chip production much earlier and potentially emerged as a global leader in the sector. However, he noted that semiconductor manufacturing has gained renewed momentum under the present government’s initiatives.

A Step Towards Viksit Bharat 2047

Describing technology as one of the pillars of India’s long-term development vision, Radhakrishnan said innovations like Gnani Artha would contribute significantly to the country’s goal of becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

He congratulated GNANI AI CEO Ganesh Gopalan and Co-Founder & CTO Ananth Nagaraj for developing the sovereign AI platform and expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen India’s position as a globally competitive technology and innovation powerhouse.
