The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), under the leadership of its president Shri Ajay Maken, today held a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar to highlight the one-year of misgovernance by the BJP-led Modi Government at the Centre and 100 days of controversy-ridden fruitless rule by the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi.  Over 10,000 Congress workers took part in the demonstration, and 5361 people were detained before being released. Congress workers had begun assembling at Jantar Mantar from 11 a.m, and shouting slogans, started marching towards the Parliament House, but a large police force put up barricades to stop the demonstrators midway.

Besides Shri Ajay Maken, prominent others who participated in the demonstration were ex-MPs Shri Sajjan Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, J.P.Agarwal,  Mahabal Mishra, chief spokesperson Smt. Sharmistha Mukherjee, former Delhi Ministers Kiran Walia, Dr Narendra Nath, ex-MLA Harishankar Gupta, Anil Bhardwaj, Hassan Ahmed, Kunwar Karan Singh, Amrish Gautam, Tarwinder Singh Marwah, Malaram Gangwal, Bhram Yadav, Chattar Singh, Advocate Sunil Kumar, Dinesh Kumar Advocate, Leader of the Opposition in the MCD Mukesh Goel and Farhad Suri and Virender Kasana.

Addressing the demonstrators, Shri Ajay Maken said though the BJP-led Modi Government has completed one year in office, there was no sign of “good days” coming to the people anywhere in the country. He said Prime Minister Modi has been busy touring the world, and had little time to address the problems of the people of the country, and the farmers were commiting suicides out of sheer desperation.  Shri Maken said the Modi Government was trying to throttle the farmers by bringing the Land Acquisition Bill and the Real Estate Bill, which were intended to benefit the rich and the powerful. He said the BJP Government was fully under the grip of big industrialists, and was serving only their interest at the cost of the people of the country. He said the poor people were sold false dreams by Modi only to let them down after coming to power with their votes. He said the farmers, labour, shopkeepers, small traders, middle class and the poor were now asking what happened to the lofty promises made to the people by Modi. Shri Maken asked has any change for the better happened in the lives of the people after the Modi Government came to power at the Centre?

Shri Maken said the DPCC demonstration was intended to caution the Modi Government that it should stop doling out favours to the rich, and get down to the business of addressing the pressing problems of the people, to give them relief. He said in the past one year, the prices of essential commodities have hit the roof, making the life of the common people miserable. He said farmers were being driven to suicides, and asked did the people elect the Modi Government to power only to make their life miserable?
