Dr. Shovana Narayan, Kathak Exponent Brings Back ‘Basant’ On Stage | DPS Greater Noida Silver Jubliee Year Celebrations

Greater Noida: 15 April 2022: The Delhi Public School, Greater Noida on Friday hosted the curtain raiser event of “The Silver Jubilee Year 2022”.

The Principal, Sandhya Awasthi presented potted-plants to welcome the chief guest V. K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Society and guest of honours Madhu Shunglu; Vrinda Sarup IAS (Retd.) Chairman SMC, DPS Greater Noida.

“I am delighted to welcome exemplary directors and principals of Delhi Public School and other schools and organisations. You all are from different organizations with a collective vision of leading the country towards the best that is possible, ” said Sandhya Awasthi, Principal.

Expressing her gratitude and respect for the teachers, she added, “The school is made with your blood, sweat and laughter. Every effort you make shines through in everything you do. Every child is the reflection of what you give and how much we receive is beyond measure.”

In his address, V. K. Chaturvedi, Ex IAS, VC, DPS Society said, “If you want to achieve anything in life, you need commitment and constant practice. I am sure this school has pursued both these values in these 25 years, and they will continue to further work upon these”

The event included a graceful performance of Dr. Shovana Narayan, Kathak Prodigy on Basant Music of the 70s. “Why bring back Basant on this occasion? Because today, this particular occasion is talking about hope, is talking about looking forward to a new vision, moving forward and it is talking about the new generation, creating, generating, nurturing the future generation. Therefore, Basant,” said Dr Narayan.

“Basant is a production of 1974. At that time, the great artist, Naina Devi motivated me to do it and got Anil Biswas to do the music. The choreography of that time was in the operatic style. We have now recreated and refreshed the music and choreography, keeping the spirit and sequences of the old production,” she added.

The dance performance was followed by many other performances by the students including Eklavya-The Thumbless Warrior, a dramatic sequence. The event gained significant appreciation from the audience.
