Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India organized “Run for Rio-Khelo or Jiyo” on 31st July 2016 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, India Gate, New Delhi. The objective of the run was not only to demonstrate to the athletes that the entire country is proud of them and wishes them all the best in the forthcoming Rio Olympics competitions, but also to connect public at large, especially children and youth, with the Olympic spirit and power of sports.300 students and staff from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida participated in this historical event at the behest of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports which had thousands of children and youth participating in what was meant to express the nation’s support to the Indian athletes at Rio.Program started with the warm up session led by the dance group “Kriti”.Prime Minister Narendra Modi then flagged off the ‘Run for Rio’ from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The Run culminated at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium covering a distance of 5km.  Emphasizing that the 119 Indian athletes who have qualified for the Olympics have done so after a lot of trials, prime Minister Modi said that they were not just there as individuals but as upholders of the pride of 125 crore Indians. He said that whenever an Indian team goes abroad, it’s not just on the field of play but in their behaviour. They would win hearts with their conduct during the Games.Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that when the 2020 games take place, each Indian district should affirm that at least one athlete from the district will represent India at those games. Prime Minister also released a publication of SAI (Sports Authority of India) on ‘Indian Olympic Journey’,which carries interesting information on India’s Olympic achievements and preparations for the future.”The Sports Minister Vijay Goel said that government would focus on providing facilities and sports infrastructure at the grassroots level, especially, for indigenous and popular sports.The Run for Rio concluded with prize distribution followed by breakfast, at Jawarlal Nehru National Stadium, New Delhi.
