New Delhi, (2/4/2019): The Election Commission of India has decided to write to the President RN Kovind in regard of the Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh’s statement in which he allegedly described himself as “BJP Karyakarta” in a recent interaction with BJP workers in Aligarh.
The Election Commission has found him violating the Model Code of Conduct. While trying to resolve an internal issue within BJP over the candidature of Satish Gautam from Lok Sabha constituency.
He was reportedly seen saying that, “Hum sabhi log BJP ke karyakarta hain aur is naatey se hum zaroor chahengey ki BJP vijayi ho. Sab chahenge ek baar phir kendra mein Modiji pradhan mantri banein”.
Election Commission in this matter seeks a factual report from UP Chief electoral officer in which it is confirmed that the Rajasthan Governor is indeed referred himself as “one among BJP workers”.
To which the EC has concluded that with such comments Kalyan Singh had lowered the prestige of the high office of Governor. Hence the EC has decided to write to the President of India in this regard because he is the appointing authority of governors in India. And leave the further decision in the hands of the President.
This is the second time EC has found a governor violating the Model Code of Conduct. The earlier instance was, when Himachal governor Gulsher Ahmed was found campaigning for his son Sayeed Ahmed in the constituency from where he was contesting. After which the Himachal governor had to resign from his post in the charges of violating the Model Code of Conduct
