New Delhi (India), April 6, 2023: Former Congressman Ghulam Nabi Azad, who few months back formed his own Democratic Progressive Azad Party, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his generosity towards him and predicted that the Congress party “won’t come to power for decades.”

In an interview, Azad said that he received little generosity from Congress for his years of dedicated service, but Modi was more generous to him. He also recounted fond memories of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and praised his statesmanship.

Azad, who is one of the leaders of G-23, the band of 23 in-house critics of the Congress, quit amid much bitterness last year. In his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, he castigated Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “childish behavior,” “glaring immaturity,” and for letting a “coterie of inexperienced sycophants” run the party.

The Congress has hit back at Azad, with party communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh stating that “both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jyotiraditya Scindia have been HUGE beneficiaries of the Congress system and its leadership” and that “they reveal their true character, which they kept hidden for so long.”

Azad sidestepped allegations that his party is the “B Team of the BJP” and stated that he does not have an alliance with any political party in Jammu and Kashmir. However, his praise for Modi has raised eyebrows and created a stir in political circles.
