Greater Noida (15th August 2025): Father Agnel School, Greater Noida, celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great patriotism, enthusiasm, and a deeply meaningful message on national unity, harmony, and the true essence of freedom. The school campus was adorned with tricolour decorations, and the spirit of patriotism echoed in every corner as students, staff, and guests came together to mark the occasion.
The celebrations commenced with an impressive march-past by the students, showcasing discipline and coordination. This was followed by the ceremonial flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director General of IILM Institute for Higher Education, Delhi. The national anthem was sung with pride and unity by everyone present.
Patriotic Performances and Inspiring Words
The cultural program began soon after the flag hoisting, with students performing on various patriotic songs and skits that depicted the struggles and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters. A particularly moving performance highlighted the journey of key revolutionaries who fought for India’s independence, presented by the senior students of the school.
Father Bento Rodrigues, the school manager, addressed the students and extended his heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Independence Day. Emphasizing the school’s core values, he reminded students of the motto inscribed in the school emblem — “Love your neighbour as yourself.” He urged students to live with empathy and respect for all, regardless of religion, caste, or background.
A Message of Unity from the Principal
The Principal of Father Agnel School shared a powerful story from a classroom interaction that highlighted the importance of national identity over personal identities like caste, religion, or region. In the story, a teacher questioned students about their religion, caste, and state. When students responded with their individual identities, the teacher posed a critical question: If a 2-year-old child needs help on the road, will you stop to ask which caste or religion she belongs to before helping her?
Further emphasizing the point, the teacher asked, If we were to test everyone’s blood group, would it be marked as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, or Sikh? Or would it simply be O+, A-, AB, or B+? The Principal used this example to urge students to rise above social divisions and recognize their primary identity as Indians. He encouraged everyone to uphold unity, peace, and inclusiveness, which are the true values of freedom.
Chief Guest Dr. H. Chaturvedi’s Motivational Address
Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director General of IILM Institute, Delhi – a prominent academician and thought leader in Indian higher education – was the Chief Guest of the event. With decades of experience in education and leadership, Dr. Chaturvedi has contributed significantly to the development of academic institutions and policy dialogue in India. IILM, under his leadership, has grown into a leading institution recognized for its academic excellence and social commitment.
In his keynote address, Dr. Chaturvedi praised the discipline and talent displayed by the students. I have known Father Bento for several years, and it brings me great joy to finally visit this beautiful school in Greater Noida. I see an institution that is committed to excellence and inclusive development, he said.
He commended the progress the school has made over the past 15 years and admired the infrastructure, including the well-designed auditorium constructed seven years ago. Highlighting the significance of the day, he stated, The celebration of Independence Day is not just about flag hoisting or performances. It is about understanding and honoring the real meaning of freedom.
Dr. Chaturvedi stressed that true independence means equality, justice, and happiness for every citizen, regardless of caste, religion, gender, or social background. He urged students to remember that while we celebrate our differences — in customs, food, and language — we must always work together as Indians first.
Freedom means the right to live with dignity, he said, but it also brings the responsibility to help others enjoy the same freedom. We must eliminate poverty, discrimination, and inequality. Every individual, whether male or female, deserves equal respect and opportunity. No gender is superior; we are all human beings, created equally by God.
Looking Ahead
Concluding his speech, Dr. Chaturvedi expressed confidence in the school’s future. Father Agnel School has become one of the best educational institutions in the NCR. With such values, dedication, and quality education, I believe the school will reach even greater heights.
The Independence Day celebrations ended with a vote of thanks given by two junior 1st class students. The event left a lasting impression on everyone, reminding all attendees that patriotism goes beyond celebrations — it lies in action, empathy, and unity.
