FLO TO DISCUSS CHANGING ROLE AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN DEFENSE SECTOR

New Delhi June 29, 2016 FICCI ladies Organsiation (FLO) the Women Wing of apex business body FICCI , getting encouraged from recent developments regarding greater private participation and 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in defence sector and the move towards gender parity in Armed Forces by Government has organised an interaction of it’s women members with Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar at Federation house on July 4,2016.

“FLO welcomes recent steps taken by the government to promote the participation of private sector in indigenous defense productions. It is also delighted at the induction of the first three female fighters in Indian Airforce who are on the threshold of entering history books in the country by being the first three women cadets to be cleared for flying fighter aircrafts. While women pilots have been flying helicopters and transport aircraft since 1991 in the IAF, we are very happy at this decision and the fact that our country is moving towards gender parity” said Ms Vinita Bimbhet, President, FICCI FLO.

“The interactive session titled ‘Parivartan in Defence Sector, Changing Role & Opportunities for Women’ with Union Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar will help our women members and others to discuss growing business opportunities in the defence production sector as well as the possibilities of working together for more opportunities for women in defence forces including extending combat roles for them in Army, Airforce and Navyplus skilling opportunities in the sector” said Ms Bimbhet.

“India has already joined handful of countries where fighting roles are being given to women and now we hope that women entrepreneurs and corporate houses can play greater role in defence production, research and support and take advantage of new government policy “she added.
