Former President Pranab Mukherjee launches UK-based Higher Education Rating System QS I-Gauge in Delhi

New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday said that our higher educational institutes and their students should now emphasis on research based studies instead of looking for high earning jobs.

He said in a lunching event of UK-based Higher Education Rating System QS I-Gauge in Delhi.

While addressing he further said, the higher education sector have came so far since independence and tough roads are ahead. “However, the biggest challenge we are having is to enroll world’s biggest youth population into the colleges and channelise those forces into right director. If we failed, there would be serious consequences.”

“Such rating agency can help to improve higher education in India.” he added.

After union government’s nod for grading or rating Indian universities by foreign rating agencies, UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds, named Q5 I-GAUGE, launched in Delhi. Former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee and Chairman of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Virander S Chauhan launched the grading system.

The QS brand is synonymous with quality and Independence since its inception and is popular for producing the highly prestigious QS World University Rankings since 2004, and the international QS Stars Rating since 2010.

QS I-GAUGE ratings have been modelled after the Q5 Stars international rating but adapted to capture the reality of the dynamic Indian higher education sector, while at the same time maintaining the strict quality standards that are equal with the Q5 brand.

QS I-GAUGE is a brand incorporated in India as an independent private-sector initiative specialised in rating colleges and universities. The system will consist of seven primary indicators and five secondary indicators, ranging from Teaching and Learning, Employability, Social Responsibility to Research and Innovation. The QS I-GAUGE rating will provide a unique should 360-degree perspective of Indian Institutions of higher learning.

With 40,000+ Indian institutions of higher learning and more opening their doors every single week, the Indian higher education system both highly dynamic and fast-moving, while still facing many challenges. QS I-GAUGE provides a common and credible yardstick to measure institutions, while empowering students, the institutions themselves, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions.

Speaking at the event, CEO, QS – Era India Pvt Ltd , Ashwin Fernandes said,
