On Wednesday a FIR was registered in a case of theft of a mobile phone and laptop from a house in sector Delta II, Greater Noida.

In this incident an unidentified person stole a mobile phone and laptop of said 39-year-old Nirmal Kumar Varshney.

The victim told police that “My roommate who works in an IT company left the flat at 6:30 morning for his job and I fell asleep soon after. So the door remained unlocked. When I woke up at 8:30 found the mobile and laptop are missing from room. Thereafter I reported the incident to police.” he said

An FIR has been registered under section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code at the Surajpur police station. Police officers said that they were investigating the matter.

The victim claimed that he did not stay in the house on a regular basis.

“I feel that the thieves might have been after my flatmate’s stuff because he works for an IT company. But, because he had already left, they stole my stuff instead. No cash or other valuables were taken. It’s as if the thieves were looking to steal electronics particularly,” he said.

Varshney further claimed that such thefts are common in this locality and many such kind of incident are also been registered in past.

Police believes that there may be a gang operating in the area.  “We are working over the case and soon arrest will be made as a lot of the residents here work for MNCS and IT companies. A few thefts reported in the past month were about stolen laptops and phones. The thieves are probably targeting such households,” said Akhilesh Pradhan, station house officer, Surajpur police station.
