Tamil Nadu(India), 16/08/23: Apple Inc.’s next-generation iPhone 15 would be manufactured in Tamil Nadu in order to increase the volume of new iPhones arriving from India.

According to Bloomberg News on Wednesday, Apple Inc.’s next-generation iPhone 15 would be manufactured in Tamil Nadu in order to increase the volume of new iPhones arriving from India.

The Foxconn Technology Group plant in Sriperumbudur is poised to provide the latest handsets just weeks after they begin arriving from Chinese manufacturing. This is being done to close the gap between operations in India and China’s manufacturing base.

The new iPhone, which is expected to be released on September 12, 2023, will be the most significant update to the smartphone in three years.

The scope of iPhone production in India will be largely determined by the availability of imported components. The Chennai facility’s production lines have been expanded.

Prior to the iPhone 14, Apple only had a fraction of its iPhone assembly in India, which was six to nine months behind China manufacturing. Last year, that wait was reduced, and Apple produced 7% of its iPhones in India at the end of March.

According to Bloomberg News, the company’s current goal is to move closer to parity in shipment timing from India and China, however suppliers are not yet certain they will reach it.

Other Apple suppliers in India, including Pegatron Corp. and a Wistron Corp. facility being bought by the Tata Group, may shortly produce the iPhone 15, according to the report.

According to reports on Tuesday, Apple will begin manufacturing of its AirPods wireless earphones at Foxconn’s facility in Hyderabad. Foxconn has approved a $400 million investment in the Hyderabad plant, which is expected to begin large-scale manufacture by December 2024, according to PTI.

The Foxconn Hyderabad factory will produce AirPods, and mass production is slated to begin in December.

With partners such as Foxconn, Wistron in Bengaluru, and Pegatron in Tamil Nadu, the company already assembles non-Pro iPhones in India. After the iPhone, AirPods will be the second product category manufactured in India. Apple’s AirPods are the global market leader in TWS (true wireless stereo).
