Galgotias University celebrates International Women’s Day 2024 with great enthusiasm

On 8 March 2024, SOL organised national seminar on the theme of ” Invest in Women: Accelerating Progress in Developing Societies”.

The event witnessed the gracious presence of Mr. Ramesh Negi ( Retd. IAS) Chairperson Committee of Homeless and Shelterless, Former Chairperson, Delhi Commission for protection of Child Rights; Prof. (Dr) Kiran Gupta, Facutly of Law Delhi University; Advocate Juhi Arora Gupta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India; Dr. Shraddha Banga Malhotra, Economist and Founder NOW Foundation.

Each of the esteemed speakers in the session deliberated upon how investment in women can accelerate the progress of a society from different angles.

Prof. ( Dr) Naresh Vats, Dean, School of Law welcomed the guest and participants in his welcome speech.

Dr. Shraddha Banga shared how NGOs can contribute towards developing skills of women living in slum and semi urban areas. She emphasized upon involvement of women in economic development of nation and why financial independence of women is call of the times.

Advocate Juhi Arora shared her piece of struggle being a woman and a first generation lawyer practising in supreme court of India. She urged the womenfolk to overcome social barriers and men to support them. During her inspirational talk she shared mantra of 4Ps( Passion, Preservance, Patience and Presentation) which are crucial along with legal knowledge to make a successful career in litigation.

Prof.(Dr) Kiran Gupta having more than 30 years of academic experience shared that even after teaching for more than three decades she still consider herself as a student of law. She emphasized on the willingness to learn and explore new avenues. In an insightful lecture she shared with examples how judiciary is also giving broader interpretation of women rights and providing gender justice.

Chief Guest of the Function Ramesh Negi, shared how engagement of women in policy making can bring out better policies for the welfare of the state. He urged men to standby women so that society can progress from all angles in the desired direction upholding gender justice for all.

Prof. (Dr) Anamika, Chairperson, ICC, Galgotias University informed the participants about working of ICC within the University.

Towards end, Prof (Dr) Namita Singh Malik convenor of the program proposed vote of thanks to all the guest and participants for making the event a success.
