Galgotias University celebrates National Nutrition Week focusing on “Nutritious Food for All”

The School of Bio-Medical Sciences (SBMS) at Galgotias University organized a series of week-long events to mark National Nutrition Week 2024. The aim of these events was to promote healthy eating and make nutritious food accessible to everyone. This year’s theme, “Nutritious Food for All,” focused on raising awareness about the importance of a healthy and affordable diet.

The seven-day program featured various activities to educate and inspire participants about food choices. These included webinars, hospital visits, food fairs, debates, and symposiums. Galgotias University actively encourages the community to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

National Nutrition Week 2024 at Galgotias University aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 3 (Good Health and Well-being), reflecting the university’s commitment to advocating policies that promote a healthy lifestyle and make nutritious food more accessible.

Day 1:
The week began with an informative webinar by Dr. Shikatoli Wotsa on “Nutrition and Stress,” followed by a session by Dr. Deepika Anil on “Addressing Lifestyle Diseases through Ayurvedic Diet.” Experts discussed the crucial role of nutrition in maintaining physical and mental health and provided valuable guidance on adopting a holistic approach to diet.

Day 2:
Students and faculty members visited the Government Institute of Medical Science (GIMS) in Kasna, where they interacted with Colonel Dr. Brij Mohan and healthcare professional Mrs. Megha. The visit helped them understand the challenges related to nutrition management in ICU patients and how to prepare parenteral nutrition based on the nutritional needs of critical care patients.

Days 3 & 4:
The university hosted the International Conference on Biomedical Sciences and Health (ICBSH) 2024. This two-day event brought together experts to discuss new approaches to nutrition, covering topics from balanced diets to sustainable food practices. Research presentations from leading academics and professionals were also part of the program.

Day 5:
At the Nutritious Food Fair, 20 students participated and presented various healthy foods and dishes. The fair provided an interactive space for students and faculty members to learn about nutritious food options and enjoy delicious samples.

Day 6:
A thought-provoking debate on “Dietary Supplements: Essential Health Boost or Unnecessary Regulation” was held in Galgotias University’s seminar hall. Ten participants explored the sustainability and practicality of supplements in diets.

Day 7:
The program concluded with a symposium by Mrs. Rekha Pal Shah on “The Gut-Brain Connection: How Nutrition Affects Mental Health,” highlighting the important link between diet and mental well-being. A recognition ceremony followed, honoring the contributions of participants and speakers who made the week-long event successful.

Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University, congratulated all participants for the successful organization of this significant event. He emphasized that the primary goal of this program was to highlight the importance of balanced and nutritious diets in society, ensuring that every individual receives the necessary nutrition for a healthy life. Nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining physical health as well as mental and cognitive development.

The success of this event is credited to the invaluable guidance of Dean Dr. Abhimanyu Jha, Prof. (Dr.) Ranjana Patnaik, and Prof. (Dr.) Ananta Srivastava.
