Gautam Buddha University Given Major Role in Uttar Pradesh’s ‘One District One Cuisine’ Initiative

Greater Noida News (03/03/2026): Gautam Buddha University has been assigned an important responsibility under the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s flagship One District One Cuisine (ODOC) scheme, marking a significant step in the institution’s expanding role in academic engagement and community-oriented development.

Acknowledging the university’s research strength and subject expertise, the coordination of the initiative has been entrusted to the Department of Food Processing and Technology at Gautam Buddha University. The ODOC scheme aims to identify, document, and promote distinctive traditional food products from each district, with a focus on preserving culinary heritage while encouraging entrepreneurship, skill development, and self-employment.

In the first phase of implementation, the university has submitted an initial proposal recommending two traditionally consumed milk-based food products from Gautam Budh Nagar district for inclusion under the scheme. Officials believe that recognition under ODOC will help provide these indigenous products with formal identity, branding opportunities, and access to wider markets, thereby supporting local livelihoods.

Vice-Chancellor Rana Pratap Singh stated that assigning this responsibility to the Department of Food Processing and Technology reflects the university’s commitment to regional development and social empowerment. He emphasized that such initiatives help bridge the gap between academic research and societal needs, ensuring that innovation contributes directly to economic and community welfare.

At the institutional level, the ODOC-related activities are being jointly coordinated by Pallawi Joshi and Vasundhara from the Department of Food Processing and Technology. The overall coordination is being overseen by M. Tashfeen Ashraf from the School of Biotechnology, who has been designated as the Nodal Faculty for the initiative.

The project is expected to bring renewed recognition to traditional foods of the region while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities. With this responsibility, Gautam Buddha University continues to strengthen its position as a key contributor to inclusive growth, innovation, and community-driven development in the state.
