Greater Noida News (12/09/2026): Reinforcing its commitment to excellence in medical education and emergency preparedness, the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, successfully concluded a Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification Course aimed at enhancing the life-saving capabilities of healthcare professionals.
The certification programme brought together more than 30 participants, including doctors, nurses, and paramedical personnel, who underwent intensive hands-on training in evidence-based cardiac emergency management. The initiative was organized under the banner of the GIMS VIDYA SETU Team in collaboration with the Indian Resuscitation Council Federation (IRCF).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS, who highlighted the critical role of structured emergency response training in modern healthcare. He noted that equipping medical professionals with updated resuscitation skills is essential for improving patient outcomes and ensuring timely intervention during life-threatening emergencies.
The course was conducted by the BCLS expert team under the guidance of the Department of Anaesthesiology, led by Dr. Nazia Nazir. The faculty included Dr. Ruchi Singh, Dr. Garima Sinha, Dr. Vinay Kumar, Dr. Debayan Biswas, along with postgraduate residents, who delivered comprehensive theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations based on internationally accepted resuscitation protocols.
Throughout the training, participants were introduced to the fundamental principles of Basic Cardiac Life Support and trained to recognize and respond effectively to cardiac and respiratory emergencies. The sessions also explained the distinction between Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Compression-Only Life Support (COLS), enabling healthcare workers to understand the appropriate response strategies in different emergency scenarios.
A major highlight of the programme was the extensive hands-on practical training. Participants received live demonstrations and supervised practice on the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and techniques for managing choking victims and sudden cardiac arrest. The practical component was designed to build confidence and improve the ability of healthcare professionals to respond quickly and effectively during medical emergencies.
Addressing the participants, Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Department of Anaesthesiology and the organizing team for conducting the certification programme. He emphasized that continuous skill-based medical training is indispensable for strengthening emergency healthcare systems and ensuring that medical personnel remain prepared to handle critical situations with competence and confidence.
The successful completion of the BCLS Certification Course reflects GIMS Greater Noida’s sustained commitment to promoting high standards of clinical education, patient safety, and professional development. Through initiatives such as this, the institute continues to equip healthcare professionals with advanced emergency response skills while contributing to stronger community healthcare services and improved survival outcomes in cardiac emergencies.
