GREATER NOIDA News (04/11/2025): The 10th Governing Body meeting of the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, was held on Tuesday at Lok Bhawan, Lucknow, under the chairmanship of S. P. Goyal, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who also serves as the President of the GIMS Society.

During the meeting, Dr (Brigadier) Rakesh Gupta, Director of GIMS, presented a comprehensive overview of the institute’s activities, including patient care services, academic and research initiatives, and institutional achievements. The Director also outlined GIMS’s future vision and development roadmap.

The Chief Secretary and all Governing Body members appreciated the remarkable progress achieved by GIMS in a short span—particularly its success in securing NABH and NABL accreditations, reflecting high standards in healthcare and diagnostics.

Key Decisions and Highlights of the Meeting

1. Upgradation of GIMS

Recognizing the rapidly increasing demand for advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities in Western Uttar Pradesh, the Governing Body approved the proposal for the upgradation of GIMS. The Chairperson emphasized the urgent need for enhanced infrastructure and capacity building to ensure quality and accessible healthcare.

Amit Kumar Ghosh, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), stressed the importance of developing GIMS into a medical center of excellence in Western UP, similar to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute (SGPGI), Lucknow.

Baleshwar Tyagi also supported the proposal, underlining the institute’s critical role in meeting the region’s advanced healthcare needs.

2. GIMS Medical College Project

The Governing Body reviewed the progress of the GIMS Medical College Project, for which 56 acres of land have been allotted by GNIDA within the Gautam Buddha University (GBU) campus. The proposed campus will include a medical college, nursing college, and paramedical school. The second phase of fund allocation for the project was approved by the Hon’ble Chairperson, marking a major step forward in expanding GIMS’s academic capacity.

3. Ten-Year Vision Plan

GIMS presented its 10-year institutional vision, which was approved in principle by the Governing Body. The Chairperson directed the institute to prepare a detailed implementation roadmap. As part of this long-term plan, GIMS aims to evolve into a premier tertiary care and super-speciality teaching and research institution, modeled on SGPGI Lucknow, to serve as a center of excellence in Western Uttar Pradesh.

4. Upgradation of Patient Care Facilities

To enhance clinical outcomes and ensure state-of-the-art healthcare, ACS Amit Kumar Ghosh recommended introducing advanced patient care technologies, including robotic surgery, high-end diagnostics, and precision medicine.

5. Introduction of Super-Speciality and Fellowship Programs

The Governing Body also approved the commencement of super-speciality courses (DM/MCh/DrNB) in:

Urology

Neurology

Paediatric Surgery

Critical Care Medicine

Cardiology

Medical Gastroenterology

Medical Oncology

Neurosurgery

Additionally, fellowship programs will be introduced in Neonatology, Pain Medicine, Regional Anesthesia, Dental Surgery, and Critical Care.

To further strengthen medical education and emergency preparedness, GIMS will establish a National Emergency Life Support (NELS) Training Centre and launch GIMS Vidya Setu (Skill Education & Training Unit).

These programs will focus on healthcare skill development, including Primary Response in Intensive Care and Mechanical Ventilation-Care Training (PRIMe-Care) and specialized nursing modules.

The 10th Governing Body meeting marked a significant milestone in GIMS’s journey toward becoming a leading medical and research institution in Uttar Pradesh. With the approval of key infrastructure, academic, and clinical initiatives, GIMS is poised to strengthen its role as a hub of advanced healthcare, education, and innovation for the people of Western Uttar Pradesh.
