Greater Noida News (13/07/2026): Reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable healthcare practices, the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, launched a large-scale plantation drive under the Government of India’s flagship campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, on Sunday. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, administrative officials, healthcare workers, students, and residential campus occupants.

The plantation programme began at 7:00 a.m. and was carried out across both the GIMS hospital campus and residential campus, where participants planted saplings of several indigenous tree species aimed at enhancing the institute’s green cover and supporting ecological sustainability.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by Director, GIMS, Brig. (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta, who planted the first sapling and called upon every member of the GIMS community to contribute towards environmental protection through active participation in the initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Brig. (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta described the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign as a meaningful blend of environmental responsibility and emotional values. He said that dedicating a tree to one’s mother is a symbolic gesture that not only honours the nurturing role of mothers but also contributes to building a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment for future generations.

He further emphasized that healthcare institutions have an important responsibility beyond patient care and should actively promote sustainable environmental practices. The Director urged faculty members, students, employees, and residents to ensure that every sapling planted is properly nurtured and maintained so that the plantation drive results in long-term ecological benefits rather than remaining a symbolic exercise.

According to the institute, the plantation programme forms part of the Government of India’s nationwide environmental campaign and will continue from July 12 to July 15, 2026. During this period, additional plantation activities will be organized with active participation from various departments of the institute to further strengthen the green ecosystem across the campus.

Several senior officials and faculty members participated in the event, including Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Satendra Kumar, Faculty In-charge (Administration) Dr. B. S. Yadav, Dr. Kiran Jhakhar, Col. A. K. Sharma, Dr. Neetu Bhadouria, Dr. P. S. Mittal, Dr. Shikhar Johari, Mr. Anupam, and Mr. Kaushal. They were joined by faculty members, administrative officers, nursing staff, students, and other employees of the institute, reflecting a collective commitment towards environmental conservation.

Through this initiative, GIMS reaffirmed its dedication to supporting national environmental campaigns while fostering awareness about sustainability among healthcare professionals and the larger community. The institute expressed confidence that the campaign would not only increase the green cover on its campus but also inspire individuals to take personal responsibility for protecting the environment.
