Greater Noida News (02 August 2026): In a significant step towards strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare innovation ecosystem, the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, through its Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), is set to launch the Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic in collaboration with the MedTech Centre of Excellence (CoE), Software Technology Parks of India (STPI).

The initiative, being launched under the StartInUP Initiative of the Department of IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, is designed to support healthcare startups by offering end-to-end guidance on clinical validation, regulatory compliance, investment readiness and commercialization.

The programme is being organised under the guidance of Shri Alok Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, with the objective of creating a stronger pipeline of investment-ready healthcare startups from the state.

₹1,000 Crore Investment Platform to Engage with Startups

A key highlight of the inaugural Startup Clinic will be the participation of Alkemi Growth Capital, a SEBI-registered Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) that manages an investment platform of nearly ₹1,000 crore dedicated to the healthcare sector.

Known for backing high-growth companies in Healthcare, MedTech, HealthTech, Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, Life Sciences and Digital Health, Alkemi typically invests between ₹20 crore and ₹25 crore in companies that have demonstrated strong market potential and are ready for expansion.

During the Startup Clinic, founders will have an opportunity to interact directly with Alkemi’s investment team to understand what institutional investors expect before making funding decisions. Discussions will focus on areas such as clinical validation, regulatory preparedness, governance, commercial scalability and investment readiness.

Comprehensive Regulatory Guidance

Alongside investor engagement, the programme will also host the GIMS Regulatory Clinic, supported by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). Experts from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Association (RAPA) will provide one-on-one mentoring on regulatory pathways, quality management systems, product approvals, clinical validation strategies and commercialization.

The organisers believe this integrated approach will help startups navigate the complex regulatory environment while accelerating the journey from innovation to market.

GIMS Emerging as a Healthcare Innovation Hub

Over the past few years, GIMS has established itself as one of India’s emerging public healthcare innovation centres. The institute houses Uttar Pradesh’s first public medical college-based healthcare incubator and has been selected to establish the state’s first BIRAC BioNEST at a government medical college.

The institute is also associated with the Stanford Biodesign Programme and hosts an ICMR INTENT Clinical Trial Centre, enabling startups to access clinical research, validation and trial support.

Through its Startup OPD (Innovation Clinic), entrepreneurs collaborate directly with clinicians to identify unmet medical needs, validate technologies, refine prototypes and prepare products for deployment in healthcare settings.

Officials say this integrated ecosystem—combining incubation, hospital access, clinical mentoring, regulatory guidance, clinical trials and investor engagement—makes GIMS one of the few government medical institutions in India offering comprehensive support to healthcare innovators.

Open Invitation to Healthcare Startups

The Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic is inviting applications from startups working in Healthcare, MedTech, HealthTech, Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Life Sciences and DeepTech.

Eligible participants include startups registered in Uttar Pradesh, startups with significant operational or innovation activities in the state, as well as incubators interested in nominating their portfolio startups. Participating incubators will also be recognised as ecosystem partners, with their logos featured in the programme’s official communication and promotional material.

Leadership Highlights the Vision

Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta, Director of GIMS Greater Noida, described the Startup Clinic as an important step towards helping entrepreneurs develop globally competitive healthcare technologies.

He said the initiative would provide startups with access to research, clinical expertise, innovation support and leading institutional investors, creating an ecosystem where healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship can thrive together.

Dr. Rahul Singh, CEO of the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), said bringing Alkemi Growth Capital’s ₹1,000 crore healthcare investment platform to Uttar Pradesh marks a major milestone for the state’s innovation ecosystem.

According to him, the Startup Clinic will enable founders to understand the expectations of late-stage investors while leveraging GIMS’ strengths in clinical validation, regulatory mentoring, incubation and clinical trial support, ultimately helping startups build globally scalable healthcare enterprises.

Building a Stronger Innovation Ecosystem

The Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic is expected to serve as a collaborative platform connecting startups with hospitals, regulators, investors, academic institutions and industry partners. Through this initiative, GIMS aims to accelerate healthcare innovation and position Uttar Pradesh as a leading destination for medical technology development, healthcare entrepreneurship and institutional investment.
