GL Bajaj Hosts Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2025 Hardware Edition

GREATER NOIDA News (13/12/2025): GL Bajaj Institute of Technology & Management (GLBITM), Greater Noida, successfully concluded the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 – Hardware Edition with a grand valedictory ceremony held on 12 December 2025. The institute proudly served as one of the 18 selected Hardware Nodal Centres across the country in the 8th edition of SIH, an initiative of the Ministry of Education and AICTE. The five-day national-level hackathon witnessed continuous innovation, teamwork, and intense problem-solving sessions.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) T. G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, whose insightful and motivating address encouraged students to channel their creativity toward nation-building. The event was further dignified by the presence of the Guest of Honour, Dr. Dayanand, Program Director, iDEX-DIO, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, who highlighted the importance of technology-driven solutions for societal challenges.

The valedictory programme featured a formal welcome of dignitaries, ceremonial lamp lighting, a Smart India Hackathon video showcase, presentation of the Nodal Centre report, and experience-sharing sessions by participating students and mentors. Inspiring addresses by national-level leaders were followed by the much-anticipated prize distribution ceremony.

GL Bajaj hosted 26 teams representing nine states from across India, bringing together a total of 178 participants, including 97 male students, 59 female students, and 22 mentors. Over a rigorous 72-hour period, teams worked on five problem statements issued by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, focusing on real-life challenges faced by the visually impaired, differently-abled individuals, amputees, and the deaf-mute community.

Participants showcased innovative hardware-based solutions across critical themes such as a Smart Blind Stick, an IoT-enabled axillary crutch, a real-time orthotic pressure measurement device, an affordable upper-limb prosthetic hand, and a sign language capture and illustration system.

The cash prizes for SIH 2025 were sponsored by GL Bajaj, with each winning team receiving ₹1.5 lakh. The winners included Team Newtrons from Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry, for developing a real-time pressure measurement device for orthotic optimization; Team ZANTHOS from Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering, Mysore, Karnataka, for creating a smart foldable aluminium axillary crutch integrated with IoT; and Team Black from SNS College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, for designing an affordable upper-limb prosthetic terminal device.

Joint winners in the Smart Blind Stick category were Aura +999 from BGS Institute of Technology, Karnataka, and Blind Spot from Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, Tamil Nadu. Another winning entry came from Hind Ke Sitara of Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg, Chhattisgarh, for their innovative sign language capture and illustration system. Team INNOVERSESS from Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, received special appreciation for their contribution.

Congratulating the participants, Pankaj Agarwal, Chairman, GL Bajaj Institute of Technology & Management, emphasized that true innovation emerges when young minds are empowered to think beyond conventional boundaries and address societal needs. Kartikay Agarwal, CEO, GL Bajaj Institute of Technology & Management, also lauded the students, mentors, faculty members, volunteers, and organizing committee for their perseverance and dedication, describing SIH as a transformative platform that strengthens the problem-solving ecosystem and bridges academia with real-world impact.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Preeti Bajaj, Director, GLBITM and Nodal Centre In-Charge, along with Nodal Centre Heads Sujeet Kumar and Dr. Selva Rani. Institute leadership, academic heads, faculty members, evaluators, mentors, and students were also in attendance.

The successful organization of Smart India Hackathon 2025 at GL Bajaj reaffirmed the institute’s strong commitment to innovation, inclusive technology, experiential learning, and national development, aligning with the broader vision of a Viksit Bharat.
