GST pulls parents of Choclear Implant children to streets in protest

A group of parents of children with hearing disability today protested at Jantar Mantar against the Implementation of GST on hearing aid and related medical procedures
The parents demanded GST exemption and subsidy on hearing aid and procedures like Choclear Implant that, with GST has come under 28% tax slab.
A cochlear implant is an electronic device that restores partial hearing to individuals with severe to profound hearing loss who do not benefit from a conventional hearing aid. It is surgically implanted in the inner ear and activated by a device worn outside the ear.
“CI is already very expensive procedure. CI for one ear can cost up to 25 lakh. But GST has made it unaffordable. Our children depend on it for hearing. We appeal government to kindly reconsider GST on such medical procedures and it’s maintainence,” a protesting parent said.
