New Delhi News (08/08/2025): At the India International Handwoven Expo 2025, held from August 7 to 9 at Bharat Mandapam on the occasion of National Handloom Day, Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, emphasized the deep cultural and economic significance of handloom products in India.

Describing the event as an “amazing experience,” Minister Margherita said, “It is incredible to see and experience handloom products. Our artisans create not just fabric but magical weaves that protect our cultural history and heritage.” He highlighted that handloom contributes effectively across many sectors and proudly stated that 95% of handloom products are produced domestically.

The Minister stressed that events like this promote sustainability, circularity, and encourage entrepreneurs, stakeholders, and the next generation to engage with the handloom and textile industry. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing appeal to promote handloom products and motivate Indian citizens to embrace them more widely.

Minister Margherita further spoke about the export potential, explaining that such platforms connect artisans from the remotest areas to global buyers. “Foreign buyers are appreciating our products here at Bharat Mandapam. Bharat is standing strong in the global market,” he affirmed, urging continued collaboration to increase exports in the coming financial year.

The expo showcased a vast array of handwoven products including sarees, fabrics, garments, dress materials, home textiles, and floor coverings, with over 200 exhibitors and 100 overseas buyers participating in this exclusive B2B event. This gathering underlines India’s rich handloom heritage and its growing footprint on the global stage.

Minister took keen interest in handloom products, artisans and weavers from all over the country, especially from Assam. Handloom Lady of Assam MONDIRA Moran’s handloom products were well appreciated by the Minister. The Minister was accompanied by HEPC Team led by Chairman Lalit Kumar Goel and ED Shreedhar.
