Not just his friends and well-wishers, but even his political adversaries vouch for his sheer commitment, sincerity and incessant zeal towards the assignments and challenges that he undertakes in life. Be it keeping a close tab on his famous chain of hospitals, playing the role of a perfect philanthropist, or being a crusader for burning issues concerning the common man on the street, Dr Mahesh Sharma leaves no stone unturned in giving his 100 percent. It was indubitably his incredible deliverance on his election promises made during the 2012 Vidhan Sabha polls that saw him register an impressive win in the recently concluded 2014 Lok Sabha Elections from the prestigious Gautam Budh Parliamentary constituency with a thumping majority.
Albeit Dr Sharma modestly attributes his resounding election victory to the ‘Modi wave’, and the unrelenting efforts of his party seniors and workers, the reality remains that it has been the long association with Noida and his commendable work for the local citizens that has led to his resounding victory.
It’s difficult to miss the exuberance and die hard passion of Dr Sharma as you catch up with him on the first instance. An astute strategist with excellent organizational skills, he is a complete workaholic much kin to his idol and party PM designate Narender Modi.
In his two year stint as the MLA of Noida, he did exemplary work for the welfare of the people of his constituency. As the people’s representative, he was always accessible to the electorate that had reposed a great deal of faith on his vision and prowess as a leader. From recarpeting of roads, laying of new storm water drains, resolving the water and electricity crisis to addressing the public grievances and development of neglected parks, Dr Sharma was able to make a mark for himself as a MLA in a record span of time.
His steadfastness and indomitable quest for excellence not only proved his mettle, but helped him to translate it into success much to the ecstasy of all those that had reposed a great deal of faith on his competence and integrity.
He is fondly referred to as a “Harbinger of passion and discipline” by his friends who have known him for many years. His timeless association with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh played a pivotal role in inspiring him to imbibe the ethos and fundamental virtues of life. His affiliation with Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad dates back to his college days. He takes pride that he has vibrantly participated and managed previous eight elections of Lok Sabha as well as Vidhan Sabha held at Gautam Budh Nagar as an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
For those that have known Dr Sharma from close quarters assert that his distinctive style of working and passion remind them of the late Pramod Mahajan who was known for his remarkable networking acumen and no nonsense attitude towards party missions and objectives. Not the ones to lobby around for plum position or role in the party, Dr Sharma is content with the role and responsibility that he has been entrusted with for the next five years. One can gauge his grit and zest from the fact that he commenced chalking out a comprehensive plan for his constituency from the very next day of the declaration of the election results.
For his unflinching works and accomplishments in his illustrious career, he has been felicitated with more than 200 national and international awards in the field of social work and health awareness programmes. He is a recipient of the Indira Gandhi Appreciation Award (2006) from National Medical Forum, and the Delhi Hindi Sahitya Sammelan Award (2004-05).
As one of the most promising faces of the BJP, Dr Sharma has always been a ‘go getter’ in life thanks to his impressive litany of accomplishments. He is a man donning many hats namely, a successful entrepreneur and a politician, vibrant activist, and above all, an exemplary philanthropist.
His long involvement with myriads of social causes and programs actually inspired him to take his mass welfare projects to the next logical level by foraying into politics. Unlike the ones vying to venture into the big tough world of politics for self-vested gains, Dr Sharma has his bonafide missions and goals well chartered out.
A well read person, Dr Sharma is media savvy, easily accessible, and fully aware of the day to day citizen’s issues be it micro and the macro level ones pertaining to civic amenities such as roads, sanitation, power, water, parks, development of public utilities namely the flyovers, subways, underpasses, FOB’s, or the sensitive subjects like women safety and empowerment, healthcare, and the girl child education. He happens to be well connected with the government departments, and above all has an enviable ability of gelling with people of all age groups.
Elucidating about the present day scenario and the challenges facing his constituency, Dr Sharma shares, “Though the metro and the mall multiplex culture have done wonders to the city life, a lot still needs to be done and attained. I envisage a proactive role of RWA’s and various citizens groups in ensuring the implementation of various public welfare schemes and projects. Going by how our charismatic leader Narender Modi has galvanized the youths of the country, I too aspire to follow in his footsteps by expecting the youths of my constituency to play a more meaningful role. Rather than carping and adopting a nonchalant stance, it is time for the youths of the city to come forward for contributing their bit towards the society and community welfare works. Different government departments have to be inspired for ensuring a smooth flow sans any gratuitous delay for facilitating swift execution of key public development and expansion projects. Undeniably, it is the common man on the street that gets to face the music. Together we will be the “game changers”, and turn things around. A full fledged revolution is needed to usher in a ‘renaissance’ that would consequently lead to the genesis of fresh ideas, thoughts and outlook. The onus rests on the civil society to join hands with us in lodging strong protests with concerned authorities over pointless delays. RWAs in specific need to be aptly empowered if we really aspire to improvise the city and our overall lifestyle. It is paramount for every citizen to be pledged towards the “Clean Noida Green Noida” mission if they nurture a desire to transform Noida into a world class city. We should get away with the practice of dumping our household garage into the neighbourhood drains. A resurrection is possible only when the city’s youth brigade and the senior members of the civil society are working in tonality with the different government agencies. We don’t live in any illusions or hangovers following our victory in the Lok Sabha Polls, as the main battle is to pass the crucial test of delivering what we have committed to our electorate. It eventually boils down to the will and passion of an elected representative that can make all the difference in the world at the end of the day. Where there is a will, there is a way…. and when there is a way, solutions are bound to emerge. I strongly believe that it’s not just the redressal of grievances, but more significantly, understanding of the ground level problems of the people, that would help us in achieving our goals finally.”
Going by his impeccable past track record of achievements and milestones, there is a great sense of optimism and euphoria amongst the local citizens of Noida as they expect a lot of developmental works to happen in the next five years.
