High-Speed Jaguar Car Causes Tragic Accident, Claims Nine Lives in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, July 20, 2023: A high-end Jaguar car was involved in a devastating accident on the ISKCON bridge in Ahmedabad, resulting in the loss of nine lives and leaving ten others injured. Altamash Qureshi, one of the injured survivors, recounted the harrowing incident, stating that the car was moving at an “extremely” high speed when it ploughed into the crowd.

The tragedy occurred around 1 am on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway in the Satellite area of the city. A crowd had gathered at the accident site on the bridge following a collision between a Thar SUV and a truck. It was then that the speeding Jaguar car struck the bystanders, causing havoc.

According to Qureshi, some victims were flung approximately 25 to 30 feet away due to the impact. The scene turned gruesome as spilled blood colored the road, and the front portion of the car, along with its windscreen, was left severely damaged.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.

The driver of the Jaguar car, also a youngster, faced the wrath of angry bystanders who physically assaulted him. The incident was captured in a video, further highlighting the severity of the situation.

The ISKCON bridge area is known as a popular hangout spot for youngsters during late hours, where they gather to have tea and snacks. Additionally, individuals planning to travel to other towns and cities often congregate at the ISKCON crossroads to board buses or private vehicles.

Sources revealed that most of the victims were young men from other cities, residing in Ahmedabad as paying guests. The tragic accident has shocked the city and raises concerns about road safety and reckless driving.
