New Delhi (30/10/2019): Hundreds of people from Kuki Community today gathered at Jantar Mantar for a demonstration and to express their longing desire for the establishment of peace in Manipur.\
The demonstration was attended by a community of people including two people representing COCOMI (Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity), executive members and volunteers of MSAD (Manipur Students’ Association Delhi), students, employees, professionals, and others who believe in the goal of a united and peaceful Manipur.
According to an activist among them, they are compelled by circumstance of uncertainty, to reaffirm their pledge to fight for the unity of the oppressed and exploited people of Manipur.
The circumstance is largely shaped by the offending forces that continuously pursue a course of attacks on the social cohesion of the intertwined communities that co-exist as a political community.
One person while speaking to Ten News said, “This attacks are the open expression of the chauvinist and reactionary forces who are in collusion with the powerful market forces whose sole ambition to claim exclusive rights over territory and natural resources.”
“Our proposal is that, ‘secret’ negotiations in the name of people must not be arbitrarily pursued by keeping the people under siege and fear. We suspect that, the demonstration of military might and deployment of repressive forces are meant to incite fear, confusion, violence, and divide and rule. We cannot remain silent if communal walls are erected in the shadow of guns. We, therefore, assert our position to hold the ground firmly to pursue a democratic course to defend our goal of collective existence for peace and tranquility in Manipur”, added a woman while talking to Ten News.
