If Congress comes to power, new chapter of GST would be presented: Manpreet Singh Badal, FM Punjab

New Delhi: Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal Tuesday alleged that the slashing of GST on a host of items was a “patchwork” for the “ill-prepared” introduction of the tax.

Addressing the Media today, badal said,

“Our suggestions were clear. Textile sector generates maximum employment and hence there was a need to rationalise GST in this sector. Modi govt did it right before Gujarat elections. We only want the tax structure to be simplified, rationalise the tax rates and in turn boost the economy.”

He further said, “Firstly, I want to remind Mr. Jaitley that his party, including Mr. Modi, strongly opposed GST since 2006. Secondly, this GST is not ‘one tax’. Today’s GST has 7 different tax rates, unlike what BJP claims. ho is going to be responsible for destroying 2% of GDP growth rate.”

“Today, we again reiterate that fuel prices should come under the ambit of GST
Rahul Gandhi has always stated that the GST introduced by Modi govt is Gabbar Singh Tax. It is a Draconian, implemented in haste and without any conceptual clarity,” added Badal.
