IIT Delhi PhD scholar Killed in Road Accident, Friend Injured

Delhi (India), 18th Jan 2023: IIT Delhi is mourning the loss of one of its own, Ashraf Nawaz Khan, a 30-year-old PhD student who was killed in a tragic road accident on Tuesday night. His friend, 29-year-old Ankur Shukla, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The accident occurred when the two were crossing the road near the IIT Gate and were hit by a car at around 11:15 p.m. Khan was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where he passed away due to his injuries, while Shukla was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket.

The police investigation revealed that the two had gone to a restaurant in SDA Market opposite IIT Delhi for dinner and were crossing the road when the car, coming from Nehru Place, hit them. The car was later found abandoned at some distance in an accidental condition, and the driver was identified.

The IIT community is in shock over the sudden and unfortunate death of Khan. The institute has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
