The second wave of Covid-19 is proving to be ‘very deadly’ in the Gautam Buddh Nagar with the district reporting over 175 deaths during the last three weeks. One study by Noida’s Sector 39 Covid Hospital has revealed that ‘heart attack’ has caused 78% of these deaths in the district.

Dr. Renu Agarwal, Medical Superintendent at the Hospital says that the infected patients are prone to heart attack due to difficulty in breathing and stress on the heart.

It is noteworthy that a fairly large number of people are dying from heart attacks, not only during their Covid positive period but also after testing negative.

Dr SK Pandey from RML Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow says that the virus makes blood thicker and leads to blood clots which could lead to a cardiac arrest or a heart attack. “This is happening because of a prothrombotic condition. In some cases, coronavirus was found to have damaged the inner lining of blood vessels which aggravated the situation. Reports are now pouring in about people who did not have cardiac issues but developed it after recovering from it,” he said.

Commenting on the study, Gautam Buddh Nagar’s CMO Dr Deepak Ohri said, “People should take care even after they recover from Covid. Doctors are giving blood thinners even after a patient tests negative. Any negligence can prove fatal.”

On Friday, the district reported 1288 new Covid cases along with 12 deaths, taking the total death tally to 296.
