India one of few countries to produce safe, sustainable dairy products: PM Modi at Inauguration of World Dairy Summit

Greater Noida, Sept 12th, 2022: IDF’s World Dairy Summit 2022 was inaugurated on Monday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida.

Being held from Sept 15th to 18th, WDS is a three-day event that aims to provide a forum for industry experts, dairy processors, and farmers to share knowledge and ideas on how the sector can contribute to nourishing the world with safe and sustainable dairying.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address motivated the dairy producers and pointed that all the Indian and global leaders, manufacturers, and farmers of dairy products are present under one roof.

“I am sure that this Summit would be a great forum for exchange of ideas, new technology, and the latest developments”, he said.

 

Modi expressed gratitude to the farmers of India for their continuous efforts which are most important for our dairy production.
“Farmers are the true spirit of our dairy production industry. They are responsible for making our country the leading producer of milk in the world”, he said.

Mentioning another great feat of our dairy industry, Modi said “The dairy cooperation system found in India is like no other”, he said.
Modi further added that the extensive network of dairy cooperatives found in our country is present in no other nation.

 

The PM also mentioned that more than 70% of the proceeds received from consumers are directly given to the farmers and in Gujarat, almost 100% is given to the women in the dairy sector.

Modi also mentioned the unique animal farming system that is present in India. “Our animals, especially cows and buffalos are known to survive in extreme weather conditions. They contribute to making our country’s dairy sector unique in nature”, he said.

Highlighting the efforts of women, PM said that the women workforce amounts to a remarkable 70% in the dairy sector. “The Indian dairy industry notably consists of women who work day and night- the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the nation”, Modi said.

 

“India is one of the few countries in the world which produces safe and sustainable dairy products”, the PM said.

Concluding his address, PM Modi noted that India is constantly progressing, inspiring, and developing to improve the lives of people.

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Parshuttom Rupala also addressed the gathering. He outlined the growth of the Indian sector through the years.
“50 years ago, the production of milk in India was 23 million and today, the production of milk is 220 million”, he remarked.

Rupala said that India can now be called Atmanirbhar Bharat in terms of dairy products because not only are we the leading producer of milk, but are also capable to export our products to several other countries.

He further said that during the summit, the story of dairy production in India will be depicted through 24 different sessions which would consist of Indian and global delegates.

Mentioning the efforts of PM Modi, Rupala said that our Prime Minister has taken the dairy and animal husbandry sector to unimaginable heights.
“When we talk about dairy, we always focus on milk but due to the leadership of Modi Ji, we have also started a Gobardan Yojana, which helps farmers to utilize gobar(animal feces) and achieve the maximum use from the same. This is something that no other country has achieved”, he said.

The President of the International Dairy Federation, Piercristiano Brazzale in his opening remarks dotes on the importance of a world dairy conference being held in India after nearly 50 years.
“We are now stronger, wise, and better. I believe that the Indian dairy industry is ready to overcome any obstacle in their way under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi”, he said.
Brazzale asserted that the Indian dairy sector is highly progressing towards delivering safe and sustainable dairy products, making the nation the leading producer in the world.

The success story of the Indian dairy industry, accounting for about 23 percent of global milk, producing around 210 million tonnes annually, and empowering more than 8 crore dairy farmers, will be showcased at the IDF WDS 2022.
