Japan, 21st May 2023: The United States, Australia, and Japan will meet in India next year for a summit of the Quad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday.

The meeting was shifted to the fringes of the Group of Seven nations summit in Japan’s Hiroshima after US President Joe Biden postponed his travel to Australia to return to Washington amid ongoing debt-limit negotiations.

In his opening remarks, Modi, whose nation will host the G20 summit later this year, informed the leaders of the other three Quad countries that the organisation was an important forum for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Quad’s purpose, according to Biden, is to create a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region.
