New Delhi, 16th May 2023: Speaking at an event in the national capital, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke strongly about the necessity of an effective legislative system in the country.

He stressed that an ineffective legislative drafting mechanism can undermine laws and democracy, as well as the operation of the judiciary.

He further added that India is not only the world’s largest democracy; it is also where the concept of democracy originated. Democracy was one of the alternatives to government systems from the days of the Mahabharata to the Mauryan era and again to the Gupta dynasty.

‘The Indian Constitution borrows heavily from our democratic heritage while remaining guided by modern principles and practices of democracy,’ he mentioned.

Speaking at an inaugral programme on legislative drafting for state and central government employees, Shah also stated that if the drafting is better, it will be easier to educate about the legislation with fewer risks of errors by the executive.

He added that the legislature is in reality full of public representatives who are considerate of the problems and aspirations of the citizens of a country.
