Greater Noida, 19th September 2024: The Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) inaugurated a new plastic recycling machinery line at their recycling unit in Greater Noida today, significantly enhancing the plant’s operational capacity. This new line, with a capacity of recycling 5,000 tons of plastic waste per annum—approximately 13 tons per day—is poised to make a substantial impact on the environment.

By recycling this volume of plastic daily, the facility will not only reduce the amount of plastic waste ending up in landfills but also contribute to environmental sustainability by converting plastic waste into sheets for use in various products. These recycled materials offer a more sustainable alternative to wood-based products.

Mr. Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President of Kia India, who was the Chief Guest at the inauguration, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “At Kia India, we are deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Project DROP is a testament to this commitment, as we strive to develop responsible plastic waste management solutions. The new recycling unit at IPCA’s Greater Noida plant is a significant step in this direction, as it not only reduces plastic waste but also creates valuable, sustainable products from that waste. We believe that this will have a lasting positive impact on both the environment and the communities we serve.”

Following this expansion, the overall recycling capacity of the IPCA plant will now increase to 15,000 tons per annum, equating to the recycling of 41 tons of plastic waste per day. The new line is developed under Project DROP (Develop Responsible Outlook for Plastic) Phase II, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Kia India Private Limited, implemented by IPCA.

Project DROP, which was launched in 2022, aims to foster a responsible approach to plastic consumption and disposal among citizens. The initiative has been instrumental in improving plastic waste management systems across various project locations, including Gurugram, Mumbai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Bangalore, by providing end-to-end solutions for plastic waste collection, segregation, and recycling.

Phase II of the project, which began in 2024, includes the development of this new recycling line in Greater Noida. The advanced technology being used in this facility allows for the recycling of low commercial-value plastic waste into chipboards, which can then be repurposed into durable consumer products. The collected plastic waste from DROP project locations will be processed at the facility after undergoing secondary segregation at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Ashish Jain, Director of IPCA, Mr. Ajay Garg, Secretary, and Dr. Radha Goyal, Deputy Director of IPCA. With this new facility, IPCA continues to strengthen its role in driving sustainable solutions for plastic waste management while contributing to environmental conservation and community welfare.
