New Delhi (India), 7th April 2023: The actor Johnny Depp is ready to make a comeback to the big screen after a three-year absence. According to “Variety,” the historical drama “Jeanne du Barry,” featuring Johnny Depp as Louis XV of France, is scheduled to have its global premiere on the opening night of the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

The court case between actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard grabbed headlines last year. The legal dispute was a defamation case that Depp had filed and won last December.

Maiwenn’s sixth film revolves around the turbulent relationship between the French monarch and Jeanne du Barry, who he invited into the Versailles Palace to live close to him despite the fact that she wasn’t a noble. The king known as “the beloved,” Louis XV, passed away as an unpopular figure after being charged with corruption.

After Louis XIV’s, his 59-year reign was the longest in French history. It would be intriguing to watch how Depp pulls off the French language without an accent given that, according to ‘Variety,’ he hardly knew any French before the start of filming.

Maiwenn previously appeared at Cannes in 2011 with “Polisse,” which received the Jury Prize, and in 2015 with “My King,” which brought home a best actress prize for Emmanuelle Bercot. Now, “Jeanne du Barry” is also anticipated to perform well in the award function.
