New Delhi: Unrest at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia over police crackdown was continued on Monday. Large number of students gathered at gate number 1 of University campus and raised slogans against Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

During the protest, the students got violent and attacked a police PCR which was passing through the road where demonstration was happening. An ANI reporter and cameraperson were also reportedly assaulted while they were covering protests near Jamia Millia Islamia University Gate-1. As of now, they are undergoing treatment at Holy Family Hospital, Okhla.

For precaution, entry and exit gates of Jamia Millia Islamia metro station were closed so to keep incoming protesters away from the site. In protest Jamia students took off their shirts in bone chilling winter to demand action against Delhi Police over the violence on campus last night. Slogans of “Inquilab Zindabad” echoed as the group demanded CBI inquiry into “police brutality”.

Another group of students formed a human chain to resume peaceful protests against the politically contentious Citizenship Amendment Act.

As many as 50 students who were detained at the Jamia Millia Islamia University during protests against the amended Citizenship Act were released in the early hours of Monday morning and since then the students are protesting.

Ten News interacted with some of the female students along with their parents protesting against the police action. One of the student said “Whatever is happening is very unfortunate. We are here to study, not to get beaten by Delhi Police. Yesterday night police entered the university campus and thrashed students.”

A parent of a student said “I am extremely sad that my daughter is not getting allowed to enter her university”

Large number of police personnel are deployed at the spot along with water cannon and the whole area is getting barricaded. Senior police officials are also at site and keeping an eye on the students movement.
