Kanpur encounter case: Chaubepur SHO, beat incharge arrested

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 8, 2020: Following initial investigation by police officials, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chaubepur police station has been arrested.

Gangster Vikas Dubey killed 8 policemen at his village home which falls under the limits of Chaubepur police station.

After it was revealed that Dubey was tipped off about the raid in advance, police had been investigating role of Chaubepur police station staff.

Sharing details of today’s updates, IG Kanpur Range Mohit Agarwal said, “Former Station Officer of Chaubepur, Vinay Tiwari and Beat Incharge KK Sharma have been arrested. They were present during Kanpur Encounter but fled the site of incident during the operation”.

Later confirming their role, district police chief asserted that evidence was found against these two in sharing raid information with Vikas Dubey.
“As per evidence, it has been found that police personnel Vinay Tiwari & KK Sharma had informed Vikas Dubey about the raid beforehand. So, he was on alert and planned to attack police which resulted in the death of 8 policemen,” SSP Kanpur Dinesh Prabhu told reporters.

Earlier during the day, Reward on the head of history sheeter Vikas Dubey was hiked to Rs 5 Lakhs.

A police team also arrived at his village home in Bikaru village and investigated the property for any more clues.

Department has also issued orders to hold an enquiry against the entire police staff at Chaubeypur Police Station. All 68 police personnel of the police station have been attached to district lines.
