New Delhi(22/11/2019): Wood inlay work of Karnataka is a slice of local heritage and is facing a bleak future due to several factors.

India International Trade Fair 2019 holds a number of stalls of this wooden work that were all presented by Artisans from Karnataka.

Wood inlay work is unique to the region and evolved due to the dexterity of artisans.

It was accorded the coveted Geographical Indication (GI) tag in view of its distinctive nature. But its future is uncertain as it is plagued by a lack of interest among the new generation to pursue the craft, rising costs of raw material and dwindling demand.

There were beautiful products prepared and presented at their stalls at 39th Trade Fair.

Speaking to Ten News, one of these artisans said, “It takes almost a week to prepare any of our products. Every product holds different artwork like brass work, wooden work, polish work and many other little things that matter a lot for the preparation of any of our product.”
