Kazakhstan Deputy PM, Meenakshi Lekhi open bust of Great Kazakh Poet Abai Kunanbayuly in New Delhi

New Delhi, 2 June 2022: On the 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and India on Thursday, the deputy PM of Kazakhstan and Mos for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated the bust of Abai Kunanbayuly in New Delhi.

Abai Kunanbayuly was a Kazakh poet and a great thinker. He is deemed as a very important figure in the Kazakh literature. He was among the earliest writers to have translated Russian and European works in Kazakh. He believed that it was a way of the Kazakhs to be open to the world’s cultural assets. His works have also been translated into many languages and holds a dignified place in the foreign reception of the Kazakh’s literature.

 

In her address, MoS for External Affairs and Cultural Minister, Meenakshi Lekhi said, “Abai Kunanbayuly was the first person to put down the folk literature of Kazakhstan. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations has translated the works of Abai in Hindi for the Indians to read his literature as well. As far as the India and Kazakhstan friendship is concerned, whether it is multilateral forum or bilateral forum we always support each other,” she added.

The Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to India and wished prosperity to the Indian people, he said that in the 30 years of India and Kazakhstan’s relation, this event plays a significant role. He also addressed the economic relation and mutual trade stating, “I will be working closely with the Indian counterpart and the Ministry of oil and gas. Our discussions will take place closely to ensure our ties with India strengthens.”
