New Delhi, 18th May 2023: The Indian Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was removed from his position today and was handed over the portfolio for the Earth Sciences.
It is Arjun Ram Meghwal, the state Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, is now set to take over as the new Union Law Minister. The cabinet change comes just a year before the national elections.
After completing almost a year in the Law Ministry, Rijiju is now set to take over the Ministry of Earth Sciences. He took to Twitter, posted a note thanking the authorities and officers in his former ministry, and thanked the Chief Justice and all the Justices.
Rijiju’s tenure was marred by repeated clashes between the administration and the judiciary, as well as his explicit criticism of the Supreme Court’s collegium system of judges nominating justices.
