Late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s wife Accepts his Padma Shri Award

New Delhi (India), 23rd March 2023: Rekha Jhunjhunwala accepted the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu on behalf of her husband late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. The award was presented to her at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi on Wednesday.

On August 14 of last year, Jhunjhunwala, the creator of Akasa Air and frequently referred to as “India’s Warren Buffet,” passed away.

Jhunjhunwala received the third highest civilian award in the trade and industry category. He was born on July 5, 1960 and grew up in Mumbai.

He enrolled at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India after earning his Sydenham College diploma in 1985, married Rekha Jhunjunwala, who was also an investor in the stock market.

Jhunjhunwala was the owner of RARE Enterprises, a privately held stock dealing company. Unfortunately, in the same month that he died, Jhunjhunwala owned, India’s newest airline, Akasa Air, ascended to the skies.

He consistently had high expectations for India’s stock markets, and the majority of the companies he bought ended up being performing exceptionally well in the market.

He was commended for his work in trade and hence presented with the Padma Shri on Wednesday. Areez Khambatta was also awarded with the prestigious award in the same category.

The chairman of Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, was conferred with the country’s second-highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan for his contributions in the trade and industry sectors.
