New Delhi (India), April 25, 2023: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made an appeal to the voters of Karnataka ahead of the upcoming May 10 assembly elections.

During a public rally in Hangal town, Haveri district, the former Congress president urged the people to limit the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) seats to no more than 40. He also requested that Congress be given at least 150 seats to prevent the BJP from forming another government.

Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of hypocrisy, claiming that while he talks about fighting corruption, he shares the stage with corrupt leaders who demand a 40 percent commission. He cited the case of former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, who was denied a BJP ticket because he did not indulge in corruption or take a commission.

The Congress leader went on to criticize the BJP’s record in government, accusing them of engaging in multiple scams and forming a “stolen government” by bribing MLAs with money.

Gandhi outlined four promises that the Congress would make to the people of Karnataka if they win the election, including the “Gruha Lakshmi” scheme which would provide Rs 2,000 per month to every woman head of a household, the “Gruha Jyoti” scheme which would offer 200 units of free electricity per month to every family, the “Anna Bhagya” scheme which would give 10 kg of free rice to BPL families per month, and the “Yuva Nidhi” scheme which would provide Rs 3,000 per month to every graduate and Rs 1,500 per month to every diploma holder, starting on the first day in office.

Gandhi asserted that Congress would deliver on these promises without demanding a 40 percent commission, unlike the BJP. He also criticized the BJP for not following the teachings of Basavanna ji and for not addressing the concerns of farmers and laborers.
