Maharashtra, Dec 27, 2022: In a fresh turn of events concerning border dispute with Karnataka, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday moved a resolution in the state Assembly to show support for individuals who reside in the tense border areas with Karnataka.
The Assembly unanimously passed the resolution. The Maharashtra government stated in its resolution that it would support the Marathi people in border areas and would pursue a legal battle in the Supreme Court to guarantee that these areas become a part of Maharashtra, reiterating its claim that there were 865 Marathi-speaking villages in Karnataka.
Shinde had criticized Uddhav Thackeray on Monday for wanting to make the Marathi-speaking regions of Karnataka a Union Territory. “Lessons from others are not necessary for us. The residents of the border region have our unwavering support, Shinde told reporters on Monday. In the midst of the boundary dispute with Karnataka, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis declared on Monday that the state government will battle for even an inch of territory. The state administration would do all possible to guarantee that the Marathi-speaking people in Karnataka receive justice,” said Fadnavis, while speaking in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Winter Session.
