Majlis Theatre Festival an inter-college event organised at BIMTECH, Greater Noida
Majlis the theatre and debating society of BIMTECH, Greater Noida organised an inter-college event “Majlis Theatre Festival”. This annual festival aims at bringing some of the brightest and most talented minds of the country under one roof. This year twenty two colleges battled it out in competitions like “Ras Milaap” and “Parivartan”.
Ras Milaap-stage play competition, it encourages the theatre team from various colleges to put forth their acting acumen and exhibit an enriching experience. It represents the various facets and moods of routine. The event was judged by Mrs Meenu Chakravarty, singer, dancer, theatre artist, blogger and works with IBM and Mr Shahbaz Hasibi who is actively involved with the National School of Drama and is currently working at MIB. The competition had participants enacting plays covering contemporary issues.
The host “Majlis” from BIMTECH performed “Andhon ka Haathi”, the play unfolds the political and social scenario of the country and was a hard-hitting satire on politicians and their approach in handling the affairs of the country. “Navrang” from “Institute of Home Economics” enacted “‘Surya Ki Antim Kiran Se Surya Ki Pehli Kiran Tak”, which is a journey through one night — the night of niyog (a practice of selecting a mate for a woman incapable of conceiving from her husband) and the upheaval it brings in the lives of impotent king and the queen intertwined by a common fate when the queen is forced to undergo niyog against her wishes by the governing council. “Maharaja Agrasen College” performed “Dharam”. “Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies” presented two plays-“The God Dilemma and Juloos”. “Hansraj Dramatics Society” enacted two famous plays “Metro” and “Nothing”. “LBISM”performed “The stolen apple”.
The second event PARIVARTAN- street play competition, it symbolised the social issues that the society is currently dealing with and the changes it necessities. Parivartan seeked participation from leading street theatre clubs that have made a mark on the society with the cause they take up, at colleges across India. It aims to pass on the baton of change from one to all. The event was judged by Ms. Akanksha and Mr Arvind.
Some of the leading colleges who participated were, Hansraj who performed Tamasha, Shri College of Commerce who enactedKotwal. Jesus and Mary College presented a play “Corruption”, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce performed “Transgender”,Delhi Technical University presented “Pehchaan Kaun”. Mata Sundri College presented “Insaan nahi, Insaaniyat Dikha”. Shri Venkateshwara College played “Aakhri Bazaar”. Thus this theatrical festival of zeal, enthusiasm and emotions for the year 2015 draws to an end
