New Delhi (India), March 30, 2023: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on the second day of the dharna organized by her party, the All India Trinamool Congress, accused the BJP of destroying the federal structure and depriving non-BJP states of their rights.
She alleged that the ruling party was robbing Bengal of its GST money and preventing the state from receiving 100 days of work money. Banerjee criticized the BJP’s attempts to label her party as anti-national and accused them of acting like feudal lords.
The Chief Minister also accused the BJP of forcing news channels to blackout the protests and claimed that the saffron party had destroyed the country’s democracy. She further claimed that the BJP had hired protesters to show her black flags during one of her international tours and had paid them in dollars. Banerjee criticized the BJP’s misuse of power and their attempts to silence opposition voices.
Banerjee and other senior party leaders began a two-day dharna in Kolkata to protest against the central government’s alleged discriminatory attitude towards Bengal. The chief minister accused the BJP of stopping funds to the state and treating non-BJP states unfairly.
Banerjee’s protests come in the midst of an ongoing political battle between her party and the BJP in the state, with both sides accusing the other of using unethical means to gain power.
The protest on Red Road in central Kolkata saw a significant turnout, with many supporters of Banerjee’s party joining her in her fight against the BJP.
