Supreme Court upheld decision of Nainital high court directing Uttarakhand government to give salaries as per principals’ grade to senior teachers working for five years as principals in higher secondary schools in state in 2012. State government challenged high court order in Supreme court. Manoj Golkera an Advocate in Supreme court won senior teachers a favourable and remarkable judgement this Friday. An excerpt of his interview with Tennews.com
TN: How you see this judgement of Supreme Court?
MG: See this judgement has brought relief to thousands of senior teachers of the state who were denied principal grade salaries by the government. The teachers had been working as principals in schools and government was to pay them accordingly. In 2012, the government stopped it and announced to pay as per senior teachers that they challenged in high court against what state government moved SLP in Supreme Court.
TN: Will it have impact on teachers deprived of promotion in other states?
MG: Yes, this judgement will be referred by practicing lawyers across courts in the country in cases similar to the UK case.
TN: Will it have any political impact on coming assembly elections in the state especially in context of ruling Congress Gov?
MG: I do not want to comment that way at all. I have done my job only and fought for a true and genuine cause for teachers denied by state government
