BSP Chief Mayawati today resigned from RajyaSabha after being asked to cut-short her speech on Dalit atrocities in Upper House earlier today. Furious at interruption of house deputy speaker P J Kurien, Mayawati had immediately staged a walk-out from Rajya Sabha.

Later in the day, she met Vice President Hamid Ansari and tendered her resignation to him. As of now, Mayawati had one year of term left as Rajya Sabha member. Given her party’s bad performance in UP elections as well as 2014 polls, she won’t be able to come back to Rajya Sabha without any external support.
